Bulgaria, Bavaria to develop agriculture and food cooperation

Date: 14.11.2007

Bulgaria and Free State of Bavaria are to develop cooperation in the area of agriculture and food, it was announced at a press conference following the meeting between Bulgaria’s Minister of Agriculture and Food Supply Nihat Kabil and Bavaria’s Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Josef Miller.

“We will use what we are undoubtedly strong in. The relations between Bulgaria and Bavaria in the field of agriculture are excellent,” Minister Kabil said.

He stressed that in Bulgaria’s EU pre-accession period Miller was one of those who not only helped, but also pointed to Bulgaria’s mistakes. Kabil noted there were many opportunities for cooperation between Bulgaria and Bavaria – both in national and common European policies.

The two ministers discussed the cooperation and experience exchange in the area of stockbreeding, milk sector and agrarian science.

Bavaria will finance a project on building a vocational training center in the Thracian University in the Bulgarian town of Stara Zagora. Josef Miller said Bulgaria had started a new era of development when it joined the EU.

“The Union acquired a new and very strong member,” Miller noted. He emphasized Bulgaria’s progress and economic growth, increase in purchasing power of the population, which, according to him, will boost goods quality and attract more investments.
