EC suggests reforms in EU telecommunication market

Date: 16.11.2007

The European Commission suggests that the telecommunication market in the EU be reformed. The purpose is the creation of a united European market which will include 500 million consumers. Bulgaria has to decide on serious problems in the field of telecommunications, EC ambassador Pierce O'Donahue declared. O’Donahue gave for an example the delay of the introduction of the universal emergency line 112. Another serious problem could appear from the fact that two of the members of the Council of Directors of the Communications Regulation Commission are with expired mandate which reflects on the taking of decisions. Pierce O'Donahue pointed out that at this stage the commission didn’t make independent market analyses. He didn’t exclude the possibility if the situation in connection with the Bulgarian telecommunications didn’t improve the EC would take action for sanctions.
