Lufthansa names new Bulgaria exec, vows to expand flights schedule

Date: 19.11.2007

German Airline Lufthansa presented its new general manager of its Bulgarian operations, vowing also to expand its flights schedule to the country.

The airline currently has 42 flights a week to Bulgaria, but plans to add new ones, among them a third daily flight to Frankfurt and a flight to Zurich, Lufthansa sales vice-president Karsten Benz told reporters in Sofia.

"We see our enlargement in the region as a strategic aim for Lufthansa. The Bulgarian market has a great potential for us," he said.

"We are very proud of our steady 10% passengers' growth in Bulgaria each year and its contribution to Lufthansa's global network," he added.

Lufthansa expects the number of company's passengers in Bulgaria to exceed 300,000 this year, with Munich, Frankfurt, Düsseldorf, Lisbon and Brussels as the most popular destinations.

Benz also introduced Gabor Horvath, who was appointed general manager for Bulgaria and Albania, where Lufthansa started operations in May 2007.
