British Council Bulgaria welcomes new director

The British Council in Bulgaria announced on Monday that current director Ian Stewart will be handing over to his successor Tony Buckby after spending five years in the country.

This is the last post for Ian Stewart after more than 35 years at the British Council and positions in 12 countries worldwide.

Linguist Tony Buckby is coming into office on 10 December 2007.

For the last three years prior to his arrival in Sofia Tony Buckby has been Deputy Director English Language at the British Council's headquarters office in London near Trafalgar Square.

Ian Stewart started his post in Bulgaria on 19 August 2002 afterbeen director in Croatia, the Baltics, and Serbia.

The British Council in Bulgaria started its operations in 1991, aiming to encourage cultural and educational relations between the UK and Bulgaria.
