Hunger and cold threaten the 16th Bulgarian Antarctic Expedition

Date: 06.12.2007

The first group of the 16th Bulgarian Antarctic Expedition that left Sofia on November 27 is now at the southernmost port in Patagonia, Chile. That is written in the letter to the media by director of Bulgarian Antarctic Institute Prof. Hristo Pimpirev. According to previously drown program the expedition should buy and transport foodstuffs and fuel for the opening of the Bulgarian polar base “St. Kliment Ohridski” in Antarctic. The expedition coincides with the International Polar Year event that is celebrating once in 50 years all over the world.

Yesterday alarmingly message about the Spain ship that should provide the Bulgarian expedition with foodstuffs and fuel was received. The ship cancelled the route over severe weather conditions in the region.
