Over 95% of Bulgaria industry runs on natural gas

Date: 25.04.2008

Over 95% of the industrial enterprises in Bulgaria with access to the gas distribution network already use natural gas, the press service of the Overgaz energy company reported.

More and more Bulgarian factories have started to use natural gas because it is cheaper, and because it does not require costly investments for purifying installations.

Only about 150 Bulgarian factories have no access to the gas distribution network. Many of these are clients of the Virtual Gas Pipeline Program of Overgaz, which provides compressed natural gas supplies.

Bulgaria's total consumption of natural gas in 2007 was 3,402 billion cubic meters, with 3,2 billion cubic meters of these consumed by the Bulgarian industry.

The natural gas for industrial production costs BGN 0,063 per kW/h, whereas electricity costs BGN 0,168 per kW/h.
