Sofia mayor imposes temporary ban on construction in Mladost

Date: 27.06.2008

Sofia mayor Boiko Borissov said that on June 25 he would sign a construction ban for Sofia’s Mladost district until the detailed master plan of the area is amended. However, the ban will not affect construction that is already underway, Borissov told a news conference in Sofia city hall on June 25.

After a series of protests held by Mladost residents during the past weeks, Sofia chief architect Petar Dikov presented the changed detailed plan for Mladost 1 district at the secondary public hearings on June 24.

A number of changes have been made after the protests, with half of the initially planned buildings have been removed, Lydmil Zahariev, who started a website against the proposed changes, told The Sofia Echo on June 24. He said the residents were not yet completely satisfied with all changes and they insisted on even less new construction. The municipality representatives listened to all citizens’ complaints and will take them into account, Zahariev said.

During the public discussion, Dikov said that a completely new procedure on Mladost district detailed master plan will start after all complains of residents were recorded and co-ordinated with the drafts. "We expect similar development for the rest of Mladost", Zahariev said.

As previously reported by The Sofia Echo, public hearings on the detailed plan of Mladost 1A are scheduled for June 25 at 6.30pm at 145th school in Mladost 1A district.  Public hearings on Mladost 4 district will take place on June 26 at 6.30pm in 131st school; discussions on Mladost 2 district will be held on July 1 at 6.30pm in the community centre in Mladost 1, and public hearings on Mladost 3 detailed plan will take place on July 2 at 6.30pm in 144th school.
