US military bases' projects for Bulgaria are advancing fast

Date: 28.07.2008

The construction of a permanent US military base in Romania is progressing well while a similar project was going to begin in Bulgaria in the winter, according to a US military employee.

George Bostick, a civilian serving as the Joint Task Force-East deputy commander for support is cited by the US military magazine Stars and Stripes.

The military base in Romania will house 1,700 military personnel while the one in Bulgaria will be constructed to accommodate 2,500.

According to Bostick the base in Romania was going to be completed in 2009.

The US soldiers in Romania live and work in two main facilities - ‘Mikhail Kogelniceance' Air Base and Babadag Training Area.

The article cites Major Dragos Axinia, a Romanian army spokesman as saying: "We have been waiting 60 years for the Americans to come,"

The Bulgarian facility, at Novo Selo Training Area, will be similar to the Romanian base but larger, Bostick has stated.

Bostick oversees the feeding and housing of 900 soldiers training in Romania and Bulgaria this summer.
