Bulgaria Environment Minister extends construction ban in Black Sea area

Date: 28.07.2008

Bulgaria's Minister of the Environment and Waters Dzhevdet Chakurov has decided to extend by one year the ban on different activities, including construction in the Black Sea area of Emine - Irakli.

The ban includes nearly 38,000 dekares of lands. With the new decision the ban now becomes a three-year long ordinance.

The previous ban was to expire on August 14, 2008.

Motifs to extended the ordinance, cited by the Environmental Minister include the fact that those areas are part of two zones from "Natura 2000" - the protected "Emine" zone for wild birds and the "Emine - Irakli" one for the protection of wild flora and fauna.
