Hotels in Bulgaria's Pleven register record profit

Date: 30.09.2008

The hotels in Bulgaria's northern city of Pleven have generated a profit of over BGN 1,56 M in the first half of 2008, which is a record level of income.

The sum is BGN 300 000 larger than in the same period of 2007, the Regional Statistical Bureau announced Friday.

Exactly 27 869 persons stayed at the hotels in Pleven in the first six months of 2008; 3 284 of these were foreigners from 45 different nations. Despite their far smaller number the foreigners were responsible for approximately one third of the profit of the local hotels.

The statistical research does not include data from hotels and hostels with fewer than thirty beds.

Despite its potential for developing different types of tourism, the city of Pleven is not a primary tourist destination in Bulgaria.
