Burgas- Alexandroupolis pipeline construction to be delayed until end of 2009

Date: 13.11.2008

The construction of the oil pipeline Burgas- Alexandroupolis is possibly going to be delayed until the end of 2009 while its functioning would begin 18 months later, BGNES reported on Wednesday citing Alexander Tarakanov.

Tarakanov is the Russian manager of the international company Trans Balkan Pipeline.

"If we wish to remain optimistic, we could say the construction would begin in September of 2009," Tarakanov stated.

More pessimistic scenarios are also possible with the groundbreaking happening in November of 2009, or even later.

Earlier in the year, Stephan Gunchev, Chief of Staff of the Bulgarian Ministry of Regional Development stated that the project was going to begin in August of 2008. In June, Gunchev updated the information and said the project was delayed by one year.
