Interior Ministry launches SMS campaign against corruption

Date: 09.12.2008

Interior Minister Mihail Mikov has asked Bulgaria's mobile operators - Mobiltel, Globul and Vivatel - to send all their customers text messages with the text “?? ?? ??????????” (No to corruption) on December 9 2008, the Interior Ministry said in December 8 2008 statement.

December 9 is declared by the United Nations as the International Anti-corruption Day and Mikov's idea is to “establish a new kind of political and economic culture of intolerance to corruption in Bulgaria, which is impossible without the efforts of all state institutions, business, media, NGOs and citizens”, Mikov's letter to the mobile operators said.

On December 9 2008, Bulgaria will host the 13th annual session of the Regional Anti-corruption initiative under the patronage of Bulgarian President Georgi Purvanov. Tip-offs about corruption can be sent to the websites and or by phone at 02/982 22 22.
