Bulgarian children vote for personalities to read from their favourite books

Date: 21.12.2008

The Catcher in the Rye. Fahrenheit 451. Atlas Shrugged. The Bible. Sofia City Library's children's department, in partnership with the children's web portal and Sofia municipality, recently wrapped up an online survey in which children and youth 18 years old or younger voted for Bulgarian personalities to come and read from books that changed their lives.

The voting took place around the country from October 8 to December 15 2008, the library announced in a press release. Sofia mayor Boiko Borissov came in first overall, with journalist Elena Yoncheva coming in second. Following was poet and playwright Valeri Petrov, and footballer Dimitar Berbatov. Other figures who were chosen were Leda Mileva (the daughter of writer Geo Milev), track and field athlete Ivet Lalova, TV hosts Ivan and Andrei, Neti, rhythmic gymnast Lili Ignatova, actor and musician Stefan Vuldobrev, actor Lyubo Neikov and jazz singer Beloslava.

Every month in 2009 will see one of the selected figures come to the library to read a passage from a book that changed his or her life, following which the children can ask him or her questions. First up? Bate Boiko.
