Turkish Airlines buy 49% of Bosnia's B&H carrier

Date: 23.12.2008

The Turkish Airlines said on Monday it bought 49 percent of the shares of Bosnia's flag carrier BH Airlines.

"Our aim is to help BH Airlines increase its fleet, improve the services and expand the links Europe-wide," Turkish Airlines Chief Executive Temel Kotil said, after he signing the contract with Bosnia's Prime Minister Nedzad Brankovic.

According to a report by Turkey's semi-official Anatolia news agency, the Bosnian government had approved the deal on November 23.

The Bosnia airline was founded on Aug. 12, 1994 as the Air Bosna, which ceased operations in 2003 due to an increased debt. In June 2005, it restarted operations as B&H Airlines.
