Nearly half of all Bulgarians live on modest BGN 600 per month

Date: 27.01.2009

41% of all Bulgarians live on a monthly household income of BGN 600, according to data from a research conducted by the Bulgarian "Noema" agency in December of 2008.

Another 30% have a monthly household income of over BGN 1000.

The "Noema" report further forecasts a 2009 slowdown in the income growth of Bulgaria's richest people and a very insignificant growth in the income of the poorest Bulgarians.

In comparison, in 2007, those with a monthly household income of BGN 600 were 52% of the households while those with a monthly household income of over BGN 1000 - 22%.

The "Noema" research further shows that those from the second group are the ones that can afford new clothes and shoes purchases, lead a more satisfying and active social life and use private medical care.

The so-called "consumers" - people spending money on trendy and expensive items constitute 24% of the Bulgarian population.

Another research, conducted by the "Synovate" agency, shows that 80% of all Bulgarians define financial success as the ability to cover all of their monthly household expenses.
