Bulgarian Student Sets Himself on Fire over Unrequited Love

Date: 19.10.2009

A 19-year-old Bulgarian university student set himself on fire around 3 am on Sunday over unrequited love.

Adrian Simeonov from the Zavoya village, Kardzhali District, in Southern Bulgaria went to a disco in the village of Chakalarovo with his former girlfriend Mariela Pashova and a friend of hers.

He begged his 17-year-old ex for hours to resume their relationship, and when she refused, he said, “Come see what is going to happen with me now.”

After that the young men went out in the open, poured gas all over himself, and set himself on fire. His ex-girlfriend was the first to come to his aid. The man is in hospital in Plovdiv with 70 % burns.
