Bulgaria Court Decisions Go Online

Date: 02.11.2009

The Bulgarian Supreme Judicial Council (VSS) is ready to launch by the end of the year the internet site where all courts will publish their decisions. The site is financed by the EU Operational Capacity program and will eliminate the very diverse practices of different courts in the country in making their rulings available to the lawyers and the public.

Currently all courts have web pages, but very few publish their decisions or publish just parts of them. The VSS publishes all documents and the names of all sides in the case, but the Sofia City Court, for example, only announces part of them and the initials of the judges. The new system will establish the same rules for all courts.

Cases can be searched by number, names of the sides, and key words. The entire documentation, not just rules and verdicts will be available and personal data will be deleted automatically, not by hand as is the current practice.

In addition, the judicial system will also use a software to monitor and control the work of court experts and jury members. They will be assigned randomly while each expert will have a file to list the expertises they took part in and the amount they have been paid for their work.
