Sofia Public Bus Stolen, Tracked down by GPS

Date: 02.11.2009

A masked man stole a Mercedes bus from the public transport fleet of the Bulgarian capital Sofia on Sunday afternoon, only to be caught by a GPS system.

The bus was kidnapped during the fifteen-minute break of the driver, who got off the bus to go for a chat with the dispatcher at the final stop of the line, when a hooded man rushed into it, turned on the engine and sped off.

The GPS system tracked down the bus, which headed for the Simeonovo district and bumped into a police car in the Yarema region.

The 29-year-old thief has been arrested. Police says the man does not have a criminal record.
