Villa Star Petrov to Quit Playing for Bulgaria in 2012

Date: 06.11.2009

Stiliyan Petrov has stated that he plans to quit playing for Bulgaria in 2012 after admitting that he may never be able to play for his country in a World Cup.

Petrov stated Monday that “It is a big blow because I probably won’t have another opportunity to go to a World Cup,” reported.

He added “My next qualifiers for the European Championships could be my last ones. I’ll definitely not make the World Cup in my career. It is a big thing when you try to win something with a club or a country. I’ll carry on playing for Bulgaria for another qualifying campaign if they still want me. Afterwards I think I will give a chance to the young lads to start playing for the national team.”

Petrov also commented on Bulgaria’s failure to reach the 2010 World Cup in South Africa; “It is a big blow that I won’t play in a World Cup, but I will be playing in the best league in the world so I am really satisfied,” the Birmingham Mail reported.
