Bulgarian Economy Minister Vows Focus on 3 Knowledge-Based Sectors

Date: 26.07.2010

Bulgaria's government will be focusing on encouraging the development of three hi-tech sectors, announced Economy Minister Traicho Traikov.

“We have carried out a sector analysis, and we have figured out our priorities. We must encourage the sectors with high added value. We have identified three such sectors – IT, bio and health technology, and green technology,” Traikov told Nova TV speaking about his ministry's activities in the first year of the term of the Borisov government.

He pointed out further that the Cabinet's measures have led to increasing the payments that Bulgaria receives from the EU under the Competitiveness Operational Program about 2000 times – from almost zero to 18 %.

Traikov declared that the Borisov government has introduced tenders for the sale of electricity produced by the Kozloduy nuclear plant. He confirmed that the Cabinet had not given up on building the second NPP at Belene and is looking for a strategic foreign investor.
