Candidates to Head Bulgarian Newspapers to Declare Clean Past

Date: 15.01.2011

One of the requirements for the positions of editor-in-chief of two of the leading Bulgarian dailies 24 Chasa and Trud is to not have worked as collaborators or agents of the former Communist State Security.

The requirement is also valid for the Bulgarian weeklies 168 Chasa and Sedmichen Trud, the Bulgarian Newspaper Group announced in its publications on Saturday.

On January 9, the media group announced that the four publications will have new editors-in-chief, which will be selected by open competition.

The candidates will have to sign a voluntary declaration stating that they have not worked as agents during the Communist era in Bulgaria.

Other requirements include higher education, team management skills, knowledge of modern methods and trends in media management, creativity, political neutrality and readiness to defend positions, commitment to democratic values and active position in defending the constitutional rights and freedoms of Bulgarian citizens.

The applicants must submit a CV, professional recommendations and a concept for the development of the newspaper.

The media group has also announced it is looking to hire investigative journalists and analysis and commentary authors.
