UDF Appeals for Non-Ratification of Euro Plus Pact

Date: 23.06.2011

Bulgaria should not ratify the Euro Plus Pact because it contains threats to its sovereignty, Union of Democratic Forces (UDF) leader Martin Dimitrov said after a meeting of the rightist Blue Coalition with the Confederation of Independent Trade Unions in Bulgaria, Podkrepa Confederation of Labour, the Confederation of Employers and Industrialist in Bulgaria and the Bulgarian Industrial Association. His opinion was supported by representatives of the trade unions and the employers. Most of them called the pact 'big trouble'.

Euro plus is a new package of reforms aimed at stabilizing the euro zone. It is not legally bounding, but recommends stricter saving policy and measures. If Bulgaria ratifies the pact it has to deposit 300M euro in several installments and in case of need, this countries economy would be reanimated with certain amount.

It is not possible the poorest EU members to pay the bills of the rich ones or as the saying "the poor must pay so the rich can play," Martin Dimitrov said.
