LUKOIL suspends production, Bulgaria to import oil from abroad

The price of petrol in Bulgaria is about to jump after the oil refinery in Bourgas is to suspend production. The licence of LUKOIl Neftochim has been taken away because the company has not installed measuring devices for custom's control. The deadline for the installation of the measuring devices expired on June 26.

In case no agreement is reached Bulgaria will have to import oil from abroad. But in Romania the prices of fuels are even higher compared to Bulgaria.

"There will be an increase, the question is how high the hike will be," transport companies state.

The airplanes of the basic Bulgarian airports have kerosine for two days only. Bulgaria's Ministry of Interior and many other state-run companies like the Bulgarian State Railways, Sofia Emergency Aid and public transport rely on the fuel coming from LUKOIL.
"Te law is equal for everybody," PM Borissov was flat.

PM Borissov explained that today was the last chance that the cabinet and LUKOIL negotiated a schedule on which the refinery would connect itself to the custom's.

"There will be no fuel crisis. There are 420 companies which import fuels from abroad," Bulgaria's Minister of Finance Simeon Djankov assured.
