Bulgarian train tickets up

Date: 13.12.2005

As of Sunday all the railway tickets in Bulgaria have gone up by about 8% on average.

The decision came at a meeting of Bulgaria's state railways BDZ board of directors, who discussed the tariffs on November.

When deciding on raising the prices, the directors took into consideration the expenses, caused by the heavy floods in the summer and the raise in fuel prices.

The tickets for short-distance trains have gone up about 5%, while the long-distance tickets now cost about 13% more.

Students and pensioners have been taken into consideration too, and their discount will be up to 50%.

Along with the new prices, BDZ has also launched a revised train schedule.
