Only Siberian tigers enjoy cold in Sofia Zoo

Date: 24.01.2006

The freezing cold will not bring even a sip of wine or vodka to the animals in the Sofia Zoo, unlike the inmates of the Moscow Zoo. " We warm them with central heating and electric heaters. We are taking measures, anticipating the bitter cold, predicted by meteorologists, we are not planning to give them alcohol," said Dr Ivan Ivanov, head of the Sofia Zoo.

We are prepared to use extra heaters. We are only worried about what might happen if the electricity is cut off. The more sensitive animals will have no chance in such a case, according to Ivanov.

If the electricity supply fails a lot of animals in the zoo will freeze to death. Some years ago, the zoo happened to be left without electricity, luckily the weather was warm then.
