Daily Telegraph: Bulgarian Doctors Fleece Foreign Tourists

Date: 30.10.2006

Bulgaria is among the countries, in which clinics overcharge holidaymakers who receive medical treatment, a British leading travel insurer said as cited by Daily Telegraph.

The other countries included in the list of "overchargers" are Spain, Greece, and the Dominican Republic.

According to the insurer Europ Assistance tourists are charged up to three times what they should pay. The company said they have received a record number of excessively high bills from tourists in different countries.

Overcharging and over-diagnosis of minor problems are very common phenomena and they might cost both insurance companies and uninsured tourists millions of pound each year, the insurer added.
