Three-century old watches exhibited in Tryavna

Date: 08.02.2006

A unique collection of 40 watches is exhibited at the Wood Carving and Icon-Painting Museum in Tryavna (central Bulgaria). The watches are from XVIII to the beginning of XX century. The collection has been donated to the museum from the local watchmaker Georgi Vezirov.

Except for working watches old models of sand watches, water watches and fire watches are also displayed. In contrast to the modern watches the old ones cannot show the hours but only measure the duration of time. The most interesting exhibit is a watch from the XVIII century that has the image of Queen Marie-Antoinette incorporated in it.
