Antiques' Traffickers Seized

Date: 09.09.2006

As a result of tightened security measures after the incident with the Russian citizen in whose luggage a cartridge was found, police seized a German who intended to take out 170 ancient coins from Bulgaria. The foreigner explained that the treasure had been given to him by his father who was married to a Bulgarian woman living in a village near Lovech (northern Bulgaria). The border policemen also arrested a Polish citizen who attempted illegal export of 380 antique items. During the arrest the man fainted.

Draconian measures have been introduced in Varna airport: the passports are kept in transparent plastic bags, no cans of juice and bottles of mineral water are allowed on board.
