Tourists wear knight armour

Date: 06.05.2006

Every visitor might put on Roman armour in the Museum of Archeology in Razgrad, northern Bulgaria, a town that was built over the Roman fortress of Abritus. At the price of a euro, history fans can dress up in chain mails, helmets and shields and in such disguise can drive a real chariot.

The museum in Razgrad is the first museum in Bulgaria that has introduced historic masquerade as part of tourist services package. Antique attire rent is a piece of salesmanship that is rather popular around the world but is not much employed in Bulgaria, it helps tourists immerse in the ambiance of the past and evokes unforgettable feelings, all in the setting of historical sights, tourist marketing experts say.

Razgrad folklore ensemble performs on a special stage erected in the middle of the ruins of the Roman fortress of Abritus. Tour operators, who would like to lend variety to the tourists' voyage with Bulgarian folklore, could contact the tourist centre on Razgrad. The ensemble plays traditional Bulgarian folklore to the background of the past but intransient splendour of the Roman Empire.
