Hospitality sector in Bulgaria lacks enough employees

Date: 18.03.2007

Bulgaria's tourism sector suffers from a lack of enough employees, State Agency for Tourism (SAT) head Anelia Kroushkova said at a meeting with Education Minister Daniel Vulchev on March 15.

Krouskova said as quoted by Focus news agency that the lack of staff resulted from the low remuneration in the sector. If tourism companies increase salaries, workers will stay in Bulgaria, Kroushkova said.

Nearly 2 956 students now study tourism in universities and their number is expected to increase in 2007, Vulchev said. The number of tourism schools in the country reached 96.

Another subject of discussion at the meeting was the funding education in the sector and the opportunities for education within businesses themselves. Kroushkova and Vulchev said that tourism representatives should aid separate professional schools rather than create their own education facilities.
