Bulgarian power plant fined for eco harm

Date: 31.12.2005

Bulgaria's largest thermo-electric power producing complex will have to pay a fine of BGN 200,000, or about EUR100,000.

Maritsa-Iztok has caused harm to the environment, Minister Dzhevded Chakarov has announced Thursday.

This year, the complex gassed the Dimitrovgrad town and is also believed to have harmed the city of Stara Zagora.

Solvay Sodi and Polimeri Devnya have also been sanctioned for breaching eco rules.
