Romanian Tourists Replace Russians in Bulgarian Sea Resorts

Date: 08.06.2006

The Romanians are just like the Bulgarians and when on holiday, they hate economizing. They buy everything they like, without bargaining or asking for the price first. They keep on like that till their pockets are empty. The Romanian tourists are very much like the Russians that used to frequent Bulgarian resorts five or ten years ago and spent pots of money on parties, pubs and souvenirs, explain pub-keepers and salesmen in Albena. Romanians prefer spending a weekend in Bulgaria instead of Romanian resorts. Bulgarian hotels are renovated and are not like our socialist-style buildings, Romanians say.

Apart from tourists from the north, Albena expects the first big groups from Albania and Kosovo. The Bulgarian Black Sea is a greater attraction for the Serbs, now Montenegro has broken away. Croats and Montenegrins are not very keen onus and it is more expensive there. So we start the car and come in Bulgaria, say Slobo and Magda Jivkovic from Nis.
