Romania Gets ahead of Bulgaria

Date: 18.09.2006

The World Bank's rating of the most suitable for business countries in Eastern Europe features Lithuania (16th), Estonia (17th), Latvia (24th) and Slovakia (36th). Romania is a bit ahead of Bulgaria - 47th.

The World Bank used ten criteria, like start of the business, licences, access to loans, property registration and investors' interests protection. As for the criterion "investors' access to stock exchange information," Bulgaria ranks first. The region's stumbling blocks are the sluggish licence regimes, protracted lawsuits and cumbersome taxation procedures.
