New Bulgarian passports will cost some EUR 50

Date: 03.10.2007
The new Bulgarian passports will cost some EUR 50, Bulgarian Interior Minister Rumen Petkov announced at a news conference. Applications for new passports with biometric data will be made after the current passports expire. 50 companies have shown interest in manufacturing the new passports. The contractor of the order will be allegedly chosen by the end of the year. The new passports won’t look any different than the old ones, their chips won’t be visible. Minister Rumen Petkov explained that the average price of passports is EUR 50 in the EU, but will make efforts to cut down the price in Bulgaria. The minister said the main idea is maximum comfort for citizens at lowest prices.
