Trace Holding picked to build Sofia metro airport extension

Date: 28.10.2008

Metro Mladost, a consortium of firms featuring two subsidiaries of Trace Holding, one of Bulgaria's three big construction conglomerates, won the tender to build the extension of the Sofia metro to the city's airport.

The consortium offered to design and build the 2.15km stretch of the metro and two stations, all the adjoining infrastructure, as well as an underground parking lot under Tsarigradsko Chaussee Boulevard for 185 million leva.

The extension will be paid for with money from the Government budget and a loan the city hall will take from the European Investment Bank.

The deadline to complete the works is 39 months.

Metrotrace, a consortium of companies from the Bulgarian construction group Trace Holding, was picked in August to build the 2.6km stretch between Patriarh Evtimii and Cherni Vruh boulevards of the second line of Sofia metro, including three stations, for 142 million leva.

By 2012, Sofia metro should have two lines with a total length of about 31km and is expected to transport more than 420 000 passengers daily, Sofia city hall said at the time.
