EC Releases EUR 115 M for Bulgaria from ISPA Program

Date: 14.05.2009

The EC will officially announce Tuesday its decision to unfreeze EUR 115 M from the ISPA program for Bulgaria.

The news was reported by the Cabinet's press center.

The Bulgarian Deputy Prime Minister in Charge of the EU funds, Meglena Plugchieva, will meet in Brussels with the European Commission's (EC) Commissioner for Regional Policy, Danuta Hubner, who is going to inform Plugchieva about the EC decision.

On July 23 2008, the EC halted intermediate payments from the cohesion fund for the Lyulin Highway and Sofia Beltway and Technical Assistance for Road Planning for European Transportation Corridors (TEN-T) projects, due to lack of control and sound management at the then Republican Road Infrastructure Fund.

In order to be able to access the money, Bulgaria had to undertake several measures: adopting the Conflict of Interest Act, changing the Public Tenders Act and the Road Act, reorganizing the Road Fund, among others.
