Bulgaria's Economy Minister Traikov said the cabinet is due to make key energy sector decisions in September. Photo by BGNES The Bulgarian government of the GERB party is going to decide in September whether to go ahead with the construction of the Belene Nuclear Power Plant, or to kill the project.

This was stated Sunday by the Bulgarian Minister of Economy, Energy, and Tourism, Traicho Traikov, who also told the Bulgarian National Radio that the cabinet had not given up the project.

"One of the major factors in our decision will be how much the electricity produced at Belene is going to cost. It will be more expensive than that produced at the Kozloduy Power Plant," Traikov said. In his words, Bulgaria had the cheapest electricity in Europe.

The Minister also announced that a new law for tourism was being drafted, and is due to be adopted by the Parliament in September.
