Ohrid Lake Killer Ship Remains Underwater for 4 More Days

Date: 09.09.2009

The ship Ilinden that sunk in the Ohrid Lake Saturday will remain underwater for another four days. The information was reported for Darik radio by the investigator from Bulgaria's National Investigative Services, Georgi Iliev, who is in Macedonia, working on the case.

Iliev is citing the inclement weather in the area and the desire of the Bulgarian and Macedonian investigators to avoid damage of the ship's body when taking it out of the water.

Iliev further explained that the bad weather conditions would interfere with the videotaping of the process of taking the remains out of the lake as requested by the company hired to do the removal.

The ship is 27 meters from the shore, 6 meters below water level. According to the investigator it could be taken out in 10 minutes, but the procedure itself was very complex, requiring lots of preparations.

"There are parallel investigations in Bulgaria and Macedonia. We have several versions, but I cannot reveal them. All testimony is classified," Iliev said.
