Bulgarian Business Goes off the Track

Date: 09.02.2010

The Bulgarian business has gone off the track – the heavy snow that fell the night before Monday blocked the whole country again.

“We are losing millions because of the global economic crisis and now the snow that fell on Monday morning made things even worse – we have lost three million levs already,” businessmen complained.

Thousands of motor vehicles were blocked on the roads across the country by the heavy snowfalls, which were about to take a deadly toll – eight cars of the international train Bulgaria Express traveling from Moscow to Sofia derailed at the station of Kurilo and only its relatively low speed prevented a more serious accident. Then, a technical malfunction made a passenger plane hover over the town of Vakarel for more than thirty minutes, but the crew eventually managed to make a safe landing.

Also, the extreme weather caused more than five hundred road accidents by 2 pm yesterday, over one-fifth of them occurred in Sofia.
