Date: 11.07.2011

Residents of Sofia seek refuge from the scorching heat near the waterfall at the Pancharevo Lake

Sizzling hot weather in Bulgaria has caused a boom of apoplexies and heart attacks. The operators in the Emergency Hospital could hardly answer all the incoming calls – before 5 p.m. yesterday 140 alarming signals came about people who fainted in the streets of Sofia.

Ambulances worked at full capacity and barely could respond to 110 calls. The duty medical officer in the Emergency Hospital explained that Saturday the number of patients hospitalized with apoplexy grew sharply, besides more people with cardiac condition called for help too. Most of the patients are elderly people.
