Russian tourists discontent with Bulgaria's airports services

Date: 04.11.2005

A total of 90% of the Russian tourists that have visited Bulgaria during the summer season have complained of the slow service at seaside airports Burgas and Varna.

Blagoi Ragin, ex-chair of the Bulgarian Hoteliers and Restaurateurs Association (BHRA) broke the news Wednesday at the opening of the Tourism and Leisure Fair n Varna.

The poor infrastructure and its slow development are the main obstacles for the further expansion of Bulgaria's tourism, Ragin underlined. In his words as soon as the airports in the two seaside cities are granted on concession the better for their development.

Ragin called for urgent measures and decisions concerning the concessions of the airports and the highways in the country. He pointed out that because of the poor infrastructure Bulgaria's tourism could not use its full capacity. In Ragin's words at its full capacity Bulgaria may welcome at least 10 million tourists and the turnover in that sector might reach EUR 7-8 M.

The growth in the tourism sector is slowly decreasing and there are signs of problems, Marin Neshkov from the Varna Chamber of Tourism underlined, pointing out for example the n the number of German tourists coming to Bulgaria.
