Bulgaria's hospitality badly paid

Date: 10.11.2005

Bulgaria's hotel and restaurant business has the lowest average salaries, according to official data.

Employees in the sector receive an average of only 107 euros per month, the National Statistical Institute says.

Bulgaria's average wage for all sectors was 167 euros in September.

The highest sum, 361 euros, was in the field of financial services.

Statistical figures, however, are believed to be much lower than the real sums. It is common for Bulgarian employers to conceal the actual wages they pay in order to dodge social insurance expenses.

That is partly the reason for the registering higher wages in the state sector, than in the private one.
