The history of AVO-Bell School of English

The history of AVO-Bell School of English begins in 1990. It was then, with a single, modestly-equipped classroom, that it opened its doors and set out its ambitious aim: to provide a new type of contemporary language education to young learners and school pupils.

Nowadays, the school can pride itself not only on three modern educational venues with a staff numbering over 80 people, but also on an established reputation and its own traditions in the provision of quality language teaching to both children and adults.

AVO-Bell today:

…is the only school in Bulgaria to be part of the prestigious British educational institution for the teaching of English as a foreign language, Bell Cambridge.
…is the only school in the country to run the international training courses for teachers of English CELTA and DELTA, approved by the University of Cambridge.

From the beginning to the present day:

1990: AVO-3 school of English is founded.

1991: In response to the interest shown by parents and clients, the school launches its first courses for adults, the number and range of which are expanded each year.

1992: The University of Cambridge holds its first June General English examination session in Bulgaria for speakers of other languages. AVO-3 is the first school in the country to prepare students successfully for these exams, beginning a tradition which continues to this day.

1993: The first native speaker teachers of English start work at AVO-3,-an invaluable asset to the school and its students.

1997: The new Dondukov venue opens its doors to students.

2001: AVO-3 becomes a member of OPTIMA, the Bulgarian Association for Quality Language Services, whose aim is to improve standards in Bulgarian institutions for foreign language learning for the benefit of learners and staff alike. After a successful inspection, AVO-3 gains the accreditation of OPTIMA and with it the right to use the organisation’s logo as an emblem of quality. For students of the school, this accreditation guarantees adherence to the Students’ Charter and the right to acquire a European Language Passport.

2001: AVO-3 School of English signs a contract giving it membership of BELL CAMBRIDGE, a chain of colleges for foreign languages in Britain and throughout the world with a reputation for excellence in the language services it provides.

2002: AVO-3 School of English becomes the only educational centre in Bulgaria and the region to be approved by the University of Cambridge to run the training courses in teaching English as a foreign language CELTA and DELTA, courses which lead to internationally recognized teaching qualifications.

2003: AVO-3 acquires the status of a partner language centre of BELL-CAMBRIDGE, thus allowing it to make full use of all the advantages such a partnership brings.

2005: AVO-3 becomes a founder member of PROSPERA, the Bulgarian Association of Consultants in Study Abroad. In this capacity ,it has established professional contacts with reputed educational institutions in the United Kingdom and worldwide.

2006: The new educational venue “Graf Ignatiev” opens its doors to students.

2007: As an established partner of Bell Cambridge, the school adds 'Bell' to its name becoming 'AVO-Bell School of English.

2007: AVO-Bell fulfills all the criteria for quality of the European Association of Quality Language Services, EAQUALS, becoming the only fully accredited member school in Bulgaria.
